Frequently Asked Questions

Sewing Assistance

I need help with my pattern, I’m stuck!

If you are confused, stuck, or have any other issues with your pattern please reach out at cospayton@gmail.com. I pride myself on providing one-on-one support and am happy to guide you through wherever you may have gotten stuck.

Please be aware that CosPayton is run entirely by one person (Hi!) and I am not available 24/7. Please allow me time to get back to all inquiries and respect the time I take away from work.

What fabrics/notions do I need to buy for my pattern?

  • Included with every pattern is an instruction booklet containing fabric and notion estimates as well as fabric recommendations.
  • Please be advised that fabric estimates are often for size “M” or “XL” and will need to be modified if sewing other sizes. When in doubt, purchase more fabric than you think you will need.

Are your patterns good for beginner crafters?

Each pattern includes a “difficulty” scale from Beginner to Expert to give you an idea of the pattern’s complexity. If you are brand new to sewing we recommend having a friend, family member, or teacher who is experienced to assist.

While I do my best to make the included pattern booklets as comprehensive as possible, some terminology and experience is needed in order to take best advantage of them.

In the simplest terms, sewing patterns are not a replacement for teachings or classes on sewing basics.

I don’t understand a sewing technique or skill, can you help?

Please send me an email at cospayton@gmail.com for further assistance. As stated in previous questions, sewing patterns are not a replacement for teachings or classes on sewing basics.

At this time, though I do provide one-on-one support, I cannot teach you how to sew, and by buying a pattern you acknowledge that they do require basic knowledge in sewing and garment construction.

When in doubt, YouTube and Google are fantastic and free resources for learning new sewing skills.

I’ve noticed a mistake in a pattern, what do I do?

As much as I proofread and check my patterns for any imperfections, mistakes may still happen as I’m a one-person team.

If you ever notice one, please message me immediately and I will issue a replacement or correction as soon as possible.

Why do two patterns I purchased look different from one another?

Some older patterns from my catalogue may no longer receive regular graphic updates as time goes on. The earliest patterns in my catalogue are almost old enough to go to preschool after all, haha!

As a solo-run business my priority is constantly improving quality while also bringing you new and useful patterns.

Any older pattern that I do not believe to be up to a certain standard of quality will either have a disclaimer to it within the product listing, or be placed into a loving retirement to make room for new and better patterns!

File Downloads

How do I print my pattern?

Included within each sewing instruction booklet is a page with further guidance on how to print your pattern. As well, a video guide can be found here.

How do I download my pattern?

If you’ve purchased your pattern here at CosPayton.com you should receive an automated email with a download link within a few minutes after purchase.

Please be sure to check your spam folders, as some emails containing download links may be incorrectly labelled as harmful.

Once downloaded, use the included QR code or link to be taken to a Google Drive containing your pattern.

I purchased from Etsy, how do I download my pattern?

You can download your pattern in two different spots:

  1. You’ll either have an email from Etsy with the download link
  2. Go under the “Purchases” section of your Etsy profile to find the download link

You will need to do this in a browser or on a computer as the Etsy app does not support downloads.

My pages aren’t lining up when I print them, can you help me?

If your pattern is printing incorrectly, there are several things to try:

  1. Please ensure you are following the printing guidelines as outlined in your booklet and the video guide
  2. Ensure you are using the proper program, such as Adobe Acrobat. Word processors such as Microsoft Word or mobile devices do not have the same printing capabilities.
  3. Ensure you are printing at “Actual Size” and not scaling the pattern up or down.
  4. When in doubt, try a different printer, as every printer has different margins. Alternative printers can be found at schools, libraries, and copy shops.

If you’re still having issues after trying the steps above, please send an email to cospayton@gmail.com with photos, and I will do my best to assist where possible.

How do I “unzip” a .zip file?

Some larger files may be distributed in downloads as a .zip file to save space and allow for easy downloading. These files require being "unzipped" to view the contents inside.

Windows: Right-click and select “Extract all.”

Mac: Double-click on the .zip file.

I can only find the instruction booklet in the Google Drive, where is my pattern?

Please check the folders above the instruction booklet, which will either be labelled as “A4,” “Letter,” or “Patterns”

Do you offer large-format printer files?

Unfortunately, as a one-person team, I’m stretched quite thin and can’t offer everything I’d like to. At this time, that includes large-format printer files.

Sizing

What if I’m between sizes?

It’s always easier to take in your seams to make a garment smaller than to take them out. When in doubt, size up and adjust as necessary

What does “Unisex” mean on your size chart?

Here at CosPayton I don’t offer traditional “men’s” or “women’s” sizing. My patterns follow a completely custom size-chart, not shackled by any “traditional” clothing sizes.

All patterns are first drafted on an XL, curvy 5’6 model before being graded upwards and downwards in size.

The sleeves/torso/pantlegs/etc. are too short/long for me. What do I do?

Every person's body is different, so your proportions and height may differ from my offered sizing.

As with all cosplays, the construction of a mock-up with a muslin fabric is recommended so you can modify the pattern to best fit your specific needs.

How do custom fabric orders work?

Custom fabric comes in 54”x39” increments. If you order up to 3m, your fabric will come as one continuous piece (54” x 117”). Any larger and it will be cut into multiples due to fabric printing limitations.

Upon placing your order, I place an order with my supplier, Art of Where. From there, they manufacture and quality check your order and ship it to you directly. This means that depending on location, your order may ship out from a different warehouse in either Canada or the United States.

Why does my patch/kit take weeks to ship?

Each 3D printed kit and embroidered patch is made by me in-house. CosPayton is a solo-run operation, and all products are made-to-order in the order they’re received.

If I have a large queue of orders before yours, it may take some additional time to craft your order. If you need something by a specific date, please message me before placing an order.

What do I do if I need a product by a specific date?

If you need something by a specific date, please message me before placing an order and I’ll see what I can do! Rush fees may be required for expedited processing under one week.

Do you take commissions?

Yes! You can learn more here.

Can I sell items I’ve made using your patterns/3D files/blueprints?

CosPayton products are for personal use only. This includes one-off usages by individuals for commissions but does not include usage by larger companies, workshops, or mass reproductions. Please reach out to purchase commercial usage rights.
